On behalf of the DBMC 2026 Organizing Committee, it is our great pleasure and honour to welcome you to the 17ᵗʰ International Conference on the Durability of Building Materials and Components (XVII DBMC 2026), taking place from July 20 to 24, 2026, at Concordia University in Montréal, Canada. Hosted jointly by Concordia University and the National Research Council Canada, this international event brings together researchers, practitioners, industry representatives, policymakers, and students from around the world.
Since its inaugural edition in Ottawa in 1978, DBMC has become a leading international forum for advancing research, innovation, and collaboration in the durability and performance of building materials, components, and systems. Following the 8 th DBMC, held in Vancouver in 1999, we are especially honoured to welcome the DBMC community back to Canada for the third time.
The international response to XVII DBMC 2026 has been exceptional. More than 540 abstracts were submitted, resulting in 320 accepted papers from 205 institutions across 43 countries and 6 continents. These contributions demonstrate the growing global commitment to addressing current and future challenges related to the durability, resilience, and sustainability of the built environment.
The conference program addresses critical and emerging topics, including the durability assessment of building materials and components; climate change adaptation and environmental resilience; decarbonization and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental impacts; and rapidly evolving technologies in construction. Participants can look forward to a rich and diverse program featuring five keynote lectures, ten oral presentation sessions, one poster session, four interactive panel discussions, seven workshops, two technical meetings, two special-topic talks, two laboratory tours, and other collaborative activities. International technical committees, including groups associated with CIB, CSA and ISO, will also convene in Montréal in conjunction with the conference.
The scientific quality of the program reflects the dedication and expertise of the Scientific Committee. All submitted papers underwent a rigorous peer-review process to ensure high academic and professional standards. Beyond the technical program, we hope the conference will provide valuable opportunities for networking, collaboration, and the exchange of innovative ideas that will help shape the future of buildings and infrastructure.
We are pleased to welcome more than 400 participants from academia, industry, government, and professional practice to the DBMC 2026. We extend our sincere appreciation to our sponsors, institutional partners, committee members, keynote speakers, panellists, session chairs, authors, reviewers, and volunteers.
